Living With Integrity

Integrity is closely linked to honesty and being true to oneself. It can be described as acting consistently in line with values of truth. In simple terms, integrity means having harmony between your thoughts, words, and actions. A person with integrity is someone who sticks to their word, doing what they say and think, no matter what’s going on around them.

These days, integrity seems to be becoming rarer. With the rise of social pressures, competition, and the rush for quick success or personal gain whether in business, politics, or even day to day interactions many people end up compromising their principles. This often leads to dishonesty or inconsistency between what people say and what they actually do. Even small lies are becoming more common, as many seek to boost their egos, sometimes at the expense of others or even themselves.

Social media and the anonymity that comes with it have made this issue even worse. It’s become easier for people to act without accountability. This lack of responsibility can lead to actions that aren’t transparent, honest, or fair, moving people further away from making choices based on integrity

But integrity isn’t completely lost. There are still many people who hold strong moral values, showing personal responsibility and standing up for what’s right. These people act honestly and transparently, setting examples for others around them. Leaders with integrity inspire those who follow them, and even ordinary people, by staying true to their principles, continue to make a difference, no matter the challenges they face.

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala berfirman:

“Wahai orang-orang yang beriman! Mengapa kamu mengatakan sesuatu yang tidak kamu kerjakan?”

(QS. As-Saff 61: Ayat 2)

“(Itu) sangatlah dibenci di sisi Allah jika kamu mengatakan apa-apa yang tidak kamu kerjakan.”

(QS. As-Saff 61: Ayat 3)

This verse emphasizes the serious consequences of not matching our words with our actions, which is the essence of integrity. Allah strongly dislikes those who say one thing but do another. Consistency between what we say and what we do is crucial and important.

As the next generation, we need to recognize how important integrity is. It’s not just a desirable trait, but something essential for building a better, more peaceful future. By sticking to what’s right and staying true to our values, we can create an environment where integrity can flourish to shaping a better world for everyone.
